Sindh Government Expands Safe City Surveillance Project
The Sindh government has announced plans to significantly expand its Safe City surveillance initiative, aiming to improve security, traffic management, and public safety across the province. Speaking in the Sindh Assembly, provincial officials stated that the project will increase from approximately 4,400 surveillance cameras to a much larger network in the coming phases.
According to government representatives, the Safe City project is designed to assist law enforcement agencies in monitoring public spaces, preventing crime, and responding more effectively to emergencies. Authorities believe that advanced surveillance systems can play an important role in enhancing urban security and improving coordination among security institutions.
Officials also highlighted the government's commitment to utilizing modern technology for public welfare. The expansion is expected to cover additional areas, including major roads, commercial centers, and densely populated neighborhoods. The project will reportedly integrate monitoring systems with traffic control and emergency response services to ensure better management of urban challenges.
During the assembly session, government members emphasized that maintaining law and order remains a top priority. They noted that the use of surveillance technology has already contributed to crime detection and investigations in several areas and that further expansion will strengthen these capabilities.
However, the initiative has also sparked discussions regarding privacy concerns and the need for transparent regulations governing the use of surveillance data.
