KARACHI | Aug 23, 2025 — By Zohaib Ateeb, Crime Reporter:
Intermittent to heavy showers drenched Karachi on Wednesday afternoon, flooding low-lying neighborhoods and triggering widespread traffic gridlock across Shahrah-e-Faisal, Saddar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and Korangi. Commuters reported knee-deep water at key junctions, while several signals went dark as feeder trips led to scattered power outages. Rescue teams and traffic police were deployed to clear stalled vehicles and guide motorists away from inundated underpasses. Residents complained of overflowing drains and slippery stretches that increased the risk of minor collisions and street crime in poorly lit areas. K-Electric said restoration work was underway where it was safe to proceed. Municipal staff began de-silting choke points near markets and hospitals to keep emergency corridors open. The Met Office warned of more rain spells in the coming hours and advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel. Authorities urged motorcyclists to use protective gear, keep headlights on, and slow down near underpasses and service lanes as water levels continue to fluctuate
