Karachi (Report: Imran Khatri / Shah Aman)
Karachi has once again been gripped by an industrial disaster. A garments factory located near Saba Cinema in New Karachi caught fire early in the morning, which quickly spread and caused large-scale devastation.
🔥 Outbreak of Fire
According to fire brigade officials, the blaze was reported at 7:30 AM. Initially, two fire tenders were dispatched, but as the fire intensified, more vehicles were called in. At present, at least 11 fire tenders are engaged in the firefighting operation.
🌪 Spread and Intensity of Fire
The fire not only engulfed one factory but spread to two more.
A section of the building collapsed, causing debris to fall and injure four people, including two firefighters.
The injured were immediately shifted to the hospital, though further details about their condition are not yet available.
🚨 Rescue and Police Operations
Rescue workers and police are present at the scene in large numbers. Dense clouds of smoke have engulfed the area, creating panic among nearby residents. Police have immediately shut down work in surrounding factories as a precautionary measure to avoid further damage.
❓ Cause and Losses
The actual cause of the fire has not yet been determined. So far, there have been no confirmed reports of fatalities, though the condition of the injured is said to be critical. Financial losses are also yet to be assessed, but initial estimates suggest damages could run into tens of millions of rupees.
⚠️ Background
Fires in Karachi’s industrial zones are not new. In the past, poor safety measures and substandard wiring have claimed many precious lives. Experts believe such tragedies will continue unless factories are equipped with modern firefighting systems, emergency exits, and mandatory safety training.
📌 This tragic incident has once again raised the question: Are our industrial institutions truly prepared to protect workers and citizens, or is everything left to mere fate?
